Here Comes the Bride...

I am currently sitting on Jake Goss's (lil' sis boyfriend) couch in Nashville, TN.  I just got back from Meghan Hall's wedding.  Meghan is my childhood friend who got married tonight.  (I grew up in Nashville and my family moved when I was a junior in high school to Arkansas...just a FYI)  Meghan was a beautiful bride and the wedding was just lovely!  I danced (surprise-surprise) all night long.  Oh and my bridesmaid dress fit like a glove.  I was so worried it wasn't going to zip up after eating at the Pancake Pantry this morning with Jake but it turned out alright....

I thought that this was a cool shot done by yours truly!

The Hall Fam...Meghan's Dad cried when he saw her and it was so sweet.

Now introducing Mrs. Meghan Bullock...........

Happy Mother's Day!!!

I want to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers out there! Yes I am alive! I know it's been awhile but I've been super busy and just haven't been blogging! There have recently been some changes in the Matthews household.....Josh has accepted a new job with Farm Bureau Insurance. He will be a insurance agent in Saline County in the Benton office. We currently live in Little Rock which is Pulaski County. It is Farm Bureau's company policy to live in the county where you work. So it looks like the Matthews will be moving to Benton, Bryant, or Alexander which is only about 15-20 minutes outside of Little Rock. I'm kinda sad because we have put so much work into our lovely home and now we have to leave :( We are currently debating to do "Sell by Owner" or to use our realtor. We shall see so wish us luck on this lovely housing market! Oh yeah, and get ready for my husband calling you and selling Farm Bureau! They really do have lower rates and have a very good reputation in the Insurance world. Okay, I have got to get to bed because I HAVE to get up and work out in the morning. This week I am going to starve myself! I am a bridesmaid in Nashville, TN next weekend and I can't zip up my dress! 1-2-3 GET SKINNY!

There's No Place Like Arkansas!

So many of you know that I just got home from Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic...Let’s just say that I’m glad to be home! So why did I go? Well my friend Anna’s mother (Mrs. Becky) is a travel agent and every year she has to organize a trip for the FMC conference and they want “the travel” agent to go on the trip with them to make sure things run smoothly. (FMC is a farming company worldwide or something…) Anyway, so they asked me to go and help out with the 230 people going on the trip. Last year, we went to Cancun, Mexico for the FMC conference and Anna and I basically did absolutely nothing! Anna’s mom just wants us there to help out if she needs us. So here’s how this year’s trip started…I flew out of Little Rock and it went downhill from there…My flight was scheduled to leave at 6am last Thursday. Josh drops me off at about 4:30am and I make it to the gate. So just as it’s time to board the plane, they announce that we can’t board because the flight paper work wasn’t finished or something… So then about 30 minutes past our departure time, we finally board our plane. We continue to sit on the plane waiting for takeoff but little and behold they announce that there is a maintenance issue with the oxygen tank. So we get back off the plane and head back to the gate area. By this time, I have already missed my connecting flight in Charlotte and I can see some of the people from the FMC group are getting antsy. Keep in mind that these people have no clue that I am with the “travel agency” as I am hiding my “Travel Consultants” polo shirt under my jacket. So of course I felt obligated to help so I went over and found all the people that were with FMC group (there were 9 of them) and got all of our connecting flight tickets changed in Charlotte (assuming that we would be boarding the plane soon) I should of known better! About 30 minutes later they announced that our flight had be canceled. They made all of the passengers travel back out of the terminal and back to the front desk. I stood in this line for 3 1/2 HOURS trying to get ALL of the 9 peoples tickets changed, including mine!!!! To make a long story short, we were booked as a “group” and there were no flights into Charlotte on any airline with 10 seats available. The only flight we could do was the one leaving the next morning at 6am. The airline provided hotel rooms for the 9 people and so after I got them checked in at the Holiday Inn Express, I went home. My awful morning was repeated the next morning only this time the oxygen tank was fine but there was ice on the wings, yes ice! So 45 minutes later after we were “de-iced”, me and the 9 people were airborne. The departure delay was going to cut our connecting flight pretty close. When we landed in Charlotte I SPRINTED ahead to the gate to try and hold the plane for my travel mates only to find that they had changed gates. By the time I arrived at the correct gate I couldn’t breathe and I’m thinking that there is no way that these middle aged people are going to be able to make it…by now everyone at the gate is staring at me with sweat dripping down my face. I got the plane to wait and the FMC people made it so off we went to the Dominican Republic. I know….LONG STORY HUH? Well it’s not over just yet…we stayed at the Moon Palace in Punta Cana which was beautiful and huge! Downside = It was rainy and cold the whole time, we had a BAT in our room which took them 2 hours to come kill it (Luckily this happened the 1st night I wasn’t there but Anna had to take cover from the killer bat attack), the customer service was terrible because the employees didn’t speak good English therefore you never got what you wanted, the food wasn’t the greatest, I slipped and fell on the sidewalk and banged up my knee, etc. The last night there, Anna and I partied it up and danced until 3am (I guess this was our only highlight). We were both ready to go home! Luckily the trip back home was much smoother even though I didn’t get home until 1am. Let’s just say I won’t be going back anytime soon. Sorry it was such a long story but just about everything that could go wrong, went wrong! Oh yeah, I left out the part when I was the lucky chosen one for the “random pat down check” before I boarded the plane on the way there and on the way back home on my last flight, they double booked my seat and my name was announced over the loud speaker to be questioned whether or not I was on the right flight…..REALLY!!!! I guess the moral of the story is don’t fly US Airlines EVER and I’m so happy to be home….home sweet home!

Time....

For those of you who actually read my Blog, I'm so sorry I haven't been doing a good job updating it. I have been super busy at work and I joined a new gym so I hardly ever get on the computer at home. So please accept my apologies! Speaking of the gym...my "getting thin in 2010" campaign has not been very successful! I have officially gained 15 lbs since we got married and I haven't lost a single pound this year!!! You know it's bad when your underwear starts getting tight! You think I'm joking but I'm not! Just admitting that makes me want to shut off the computer and do some squats right here in my living room. It’s almost 5pm so I need to hit the gym before the rest of the day gets away from me. Josh and I have been up since about 6:30am running errands all day. We are getting a make over done on our kitchen….new granite countertops, backsplash, sink, and a new range. We actually bought the stove today and it’s sitting in our dining room. We also looked at the countertops and brought home some samples…so Monday we will be making a decision and then get started. Hopefully everything will be done by the end of March, just in time for Alan and Monica’s Fiesta Party at our house! Well off to the gym I go!

Snow, Snow, and yes MORE SNOW!!!!

Yesterday morning I woke up to my lovely husband saying “ Would you believe me if I told you that it snowed last night and it’s all over the roads” This little winter storm came out of nowhere or maybe we didn’t watch the news Sunday night…anyway it was a pleasant surprise! I did however have to go out in the snow yesterday for a luncheon that our company was hosting (still can’t believe they didn’t cancel it)…After the luncheon was over I went straight home….right after my husband met me and followed me home…so sweet! Our neighborhood was the worst! After I slid down the hill and into our driveway I decided I wasn’t going anywhere until it was safe out there. Today I worked from home actually got a lot of things accomplished. Tomorrow it’s back to the workplace world but on a happy note, it’s already Wednesday! I have some pictures of Koen in the snow from a few weeks ago that I need to post. I’ll try to make a few tomorrow too! We ended up getting I want to say about 6-8 inches which is a lot here in Little Rock. Koen didn’t really know what to expect of the snow/ice. I’m ready for it to melt because it takes him 10 years to use the bathroom. Yesterday, when he tried to poop, his paws would sink in and he couldn’t hunch over because his butt kept hitting the snow. He just went round and round and was getting frustrated. It was pretty funny!

SNOW DAY!!!!!

The weather man has ALWAYS been wrong in the past but he pulled through this morning! I awoke to Josh waking me to tell me that all Little Rock schools were out. So at 7 this morning, I was doing the roger rabbit dance in our bedroom. The only downside is that we were NOT prepared to be "shut-in" and Josh and I are going crazy! There is nothing on TV and we have no movies to watch...maybe I'll make a cake! That will be perfect for my "Staying Thin, in 2010" diet plan! If anyone else if off work today due to snow.....good for you! Relax and have a wonderful 3-day weekend!

Christmas Puppy

My mother-in-law has been wanting a puppy for as long as I can remember and so I decided that for Christmas we would get her a puppy. I went down to the Little Rock Animal Shelter (that's where we got Koen) and found this precious Shepherd Lab Mix. He was only about 8 weeks old and he was soooo tiny! Josh and I kept the puppy at our home for almost 2 weeks before Christmas and it was wonderful and of course I got attached and cried when we actually had to give the puppy to Brenda. Brenda was extremely surprised and absolutely LOVED the puppy! Keith (my father-in-law) loved the little dude to! I failed to mention that the little guy didn't get off to a good start with having worms, mange, and a bacterial mouth infection. After Christmas, the puppy kept getting worse and developed kennel cough which turned into Phenomia. It broke my heart that we gave Brenda a "sick" puppy but he was just so cute and I wanted to save him from the shelter. On my little sister's birthday (January 9th) I got the call from my mother-in-law that she had to put the puppy down because he had Distemper. Distemper is a contagious, incurable, often fatal, multisystem viral disease that affects the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and central nervous systems of dogs. Young puppies between 3 and 6 months old are most susceptible to infection and disease and are more likely to die than infected adults. So I am very sad to report that the puppy didn’t make it and it was heartbreaking. He is in doggie heaven now, but I can assure you that he had the best last weeks of his life with a loving family! I think that Brenda and Keith will be getting another puppy later on this Spring when it’s not so cold outside…. So the whole reason for this story is this…I told my mother-in-law that she needed to call the shelter and let them know about the puppy. The shelter is reimbursing us for not only the adoption fee but for ALL his doctors visits! Can you believe it…I was totally shocked! Maybe Brenda cried to them over the phone and they felt really bad. It’s about $580 something that Josh’s parents and we spent on this pup. RIP Moses!

Recovery

Mom's surgery went very well and now Mom's in the recovery stage. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. Now she just has 6 weeks of "recovery" time and Dad and Lori will be wonderful nurses! Ashley has gone back to Gainesville and I am back home in Little Rock and just about back to normal. I still haven't completely unpacked from Miami and dread doing it. We have a MOUNTAIN of laundry to do and no detergent. Off to Walmart I go tomorrow! It's past my bedtime but I just wanted to give the update on Mom...

Mom's Surgery

I am about to board the plane to head back to Bentonville and I just wanted to say a quick prayer for my mom.  Any surgical procedure is a time of tension, fear and hope that the surgery will cure the problem and I know my mom is very ancious to get back to her normal life.  I believe that she is waiting to undergo surgery at the moment and I know it's a time of anxiety for the whole family.

"Dear God, please be with Mom during her back surgery this morning.  Please hold her in your arms as her body is Your creation and she needs you.  Calm her fears and guide the surgeon’s hand that is going to change her back, and may she heal and function better after this is all over with. In your Holy precious name, Amen.”

Rude People = Miami

So I finally got to check in my room this afternoon and as soon as I did, I changed out of my "travel clothes" and took the $10 round trip shuttle to the Dolphin Mall. That place let me tell ya is HUGE! I had about 2 hours to shop and of course I didn't even make it around to even half of the stores. They had this really cute store similar to Forever 21 but even cheaper!!!! It was called Love Culture? Never heard of it but I loved it! I will tell you what I didn't love.....the people! The last time I checked, Florida was a part of the south but I guess southern hospitality doesn't apply in Miami. These people are extremely RUDE! First, about 90% of the people here are from different countries and don’t speak good English (or pretend not to speak English). I got turned around in the mall and asked a lady who runs one of those booths in the middle of the mall (you know the ones that try to sell Proactive face wash and cheap jewelry…) Anyway, I asked her where the food court was located and as she rolled her eyes and said “No speak English” (in perfectly good English I might add). Now how are you going to have a booth and harass people into buying hair straighteners, but not know how to speak English? RUDE! People just run into and walk in front of you without ever saying excuse me….I don’t know, Miami has just rubbed me the wrong way. Let’s just say I probably won’t be back to visit anytime soon. Tomorrow morning I am free to roam again and then the conference starts at 1pm. It’s supposed to be pretty tomorrow and there is a marketplace area within walking distance so I’ll probably go there in the morning. I am about to hit the hay due to my early start today. Plus I’m an hour ahead here and it’s 10pm. Past bed time!

Miami FL

This morning Dad took me to the airport at the butt crack of dawn for the flight to Miami.  The hotel didn't tell me that check-in wasn't until 3pm so I am sitting here in the lobby waiting on a room at the moment.  It's raining (there goes my tan!) and the closest shopping area is a $35 to $40 taxi ride away.  There is a shuttle here that is $10 for a round trip to the mall but I can't get on there until 3:50pm and it's only 2:20pm so I am officially BORED and STARVING!  Oh well, no use in complaining!  I have nothing planned for tonight and tomorrow my conference is from 1pm-5pm and then I'm done and I go home.  Pretty quick trip so I'll just sit back and relax!

Friday, January 15, 2010

Today the Lassiter girls woke up at the butt crack of dawn and took Mom to get her pre exam work done at the hospital.  Afterwards we went to Borders and got Mom the Inflamation Diet Book that the doctor requested Mom get on after her surgery.  I love coming home and spending time with my family!  I'm always so sad when I have to leave.  I'll be home again soon though, hopefully.  I will be flying out to Miami on Sunday morning from XNA and returning Tuesday for work.  Short trip and I've never been to Miami before.  Hopefully it will be nice weather...maybe I'll get a tan :)

Home Sweet Home

I know you were all wondering about me :) I haven't blogged in FOREVER and I promise to write more often...I've just been busy and I was sick for about two weeks so anyway...I'm back now! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Years! So my New Years Resolution was not to eat ANY candy for a whole year and what am I doing right now....ohh eating some lemon heads and nerds. I am SO weak! It's only January 14th! Terrible I know! I did however tell myself that I was going to start drinking more water and less soft drinks and I'm doing great at that. I'll work on the candy :)

I just got home to Bentonville last night so we could have our family Christmas. It was the only time that Ashley could come home from Gainesville so I waited to take vacation when she would be home. All us chick-a-dees are under one roof for a few days and Mom and Dad are happy! I haven't written about my Mom yet on here....she hurt her back before Christmas and it turns out that she has a bulging disk and will need surgery. We took her to the doctor today and scheduled her surgery for next Tuesday, January 19th. Mom is scared to death, but she'll be pain free after the surgery and she will be able to move around better. Please keep her in your prayers! We put her in the wheelchair today at Sams and wheeled her around. It's the first time she's been to Sams in weeks and that it a total shocker! You know that she's really hurting when she doesn’t go to Wal-Mart or Sams Club 5 times in one week, but she will be better soon and Lori and Dad will be wonderful nurses during her 6 week recovery time! In the meantime I will continue to do the chores around the house for my mother and wash clothes everyday! Just kidding mom, but seriously you do the laundry way too often! Love you!
